I have always loved coming to Puerto Rico, and knew that it held a special place in my heart. On my first trip to Culebra, I absolutely fell in love with the people, the beaches, and the community. I initially came to look for a quiet little place to perhaps retire to eventually. After I began construction, I quickly realized that I had to share my passion for this little hidden gem I was lucky enough to stumble upon myself. Many people think think that I am living my dream and that I had perhaps always had a vision of building a hotel in a Caribbean Island. The truth is that I had never imagined such possibilities. Although I have often been told that "I live outside of the box", I truly took on a huge challenge by choosing to build in a remote island in the Caribbean with no "real" hardware store, having to ferry nearly every piece of building material and every piece of furniture and decoration inside of my suitcase by plane or by ferry. All while living 1600 miles away in Maryland, owning and operating three other businesses, raising 2 teenage girls and not knowing even a bit of Spanish or even one person living in the island of Puerto Rico. Definitely not a project for the weak, but absolutely one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences of my life. During the record -breaking fast 1 year and 3 months that it took to build Island charm, I became wonderful friends with my builders, engineers, local Culebrense families, and grew to love the culture and learn so much about living your life to the fullest..all from the most amazing, happiest and full of life people I have every met in my life.
